FA Cup First Round Qualifying

Another trip to Yorkshire to see Brighouse for the 3rd time on this amazing journey. A love for pints, minty peas and pies welcomed me and my mates at the Commercial Inn / Railway pub once again pre-game. Thanks again to Trevor and the gang for making us feel welcome.
At the ground we saw a few familiar faces as well as some new ones. It was certainly a friendly place to be… I met up with Andy, part owner of Brighouse and Wayne Gibson – The towns all time leading goal scorer with 249 goals from 326 appearances. Prolific!

As always, whatever team is the winner from the previous round I will fully get behind and in true style (and after a few pints!) I was willing the Brighouse lads along. To be fair they gave it a good go but it ended up being a frustrating game for the home fans and Aycliffe were the ones to capitalise on their chances including one sublime effort.  This gave Aycliffe a historic victory in the FA Cup competition.

I’d like to say thank you to all those in Brighouse both outside and within the football club who have made my experiences so enjoyable. As discovered today my next trip is up to Newton Aycliffe for the tie against North Ferriby United.

During the game I met up with some of the Aycliffe fans and got chatting. I look forward to the next part of the journey! I also at the end of the game somehow ended up with this photo… Probably due to the added confidence of a few too Guinness!!! Thank you to the Aycliffe team for this beaut!

Thanks again to Brighouse once again for the experience and commiserations. Newton Aycliffe – see you at home in a couple of weeks!

Some more photos and videos from the day…

The famous pies.
